Get back to basics
It’s officially September, which means in my household, we’re trying to reestablish what a functional routine looks like. We’ve had some misfires the last few weeks with forgetting to complete homework assignments, showing up to practice with the wrong shoes on, and arriving at places by the skin of our teeth. And I know a big reason is that we’re out of practice of what it means to be back in school, back to more demanding work schedules and evenings full of practices.
So we’re getting back to basics over here. Taking the time to write down our schedule more clearly. Plan a few meals ahead of time. Say ‘no’ to some things that we just don’t have the bandwidth for. I’m not talking about creating a master color-coded calendar to keep us all organized, that sounds way too stressful, I’m talking about getting back to the simple routines that help us all feel a little more sane.
