Who are you cheering for?

October baseball… oh my lawd… I’m all in. Yes, I’m a sports fan and at our core, we’re a baseball family, but there’s something about the World Series that really just gets me fired up.

For the record, I don’t do fair-weather fans or bandwagoners… it’s ride or die for me when it comes to being a loyal fan of your team. I truly believe that you should keep cheering your team on, even when they play like cr*p.

This may sound a bit extreme, but really this belief translates to how I view relationships. I believe you need to be your mate’s biggest cheerleader. That when the chips are down, you’re right there encouraging them to stack ‘em back up.

Now, this does NOT mean that you have to approve, endorse, or agree with every play call your mate makes. This also does NOT mean that you say “I told you so” after what seems like an obvious mistake.

But what it DOES mean is that at the end of the day you’re on the SAME TEAM. Regardless of how cr*ppy one or both of you have been playing lately, it’s not your job (nor anyone’s) to rub dirt and shame each other during the play review process. Instead, it’s your job… as teammates… to dust each other off and get back to the drawing board.

Your mate should be your biggest cheerleader. The one who encourages, challenges and celebrates the highs and lows of life with you. And, if you find that really difficult to do or are stuck in a pattern of only seeing each others’ faults, then it sounds like it might be time for some slowing down and examining.

Ask yourself…

Are we on the same team? Am I my mate’s biggest cheerleader?

Use the rush of October baseball as a reminder that your teammate in life really does want (and need) you as their biggest cheerleader, and them for you too.

Dive in here to better evaluate the kind of teammate you are and what you need from each other when it comes to cheering for one another.

Go, Team.

Yours,

-A
