Be the real MVT!

We’re back from our last tournament of my son’s 10u baseball season and wow was it ever a tournament. So many teams, so many games, so much fun, and I’m completely exhausted. Which I realize sounds ridiculous because I didn’t hit a single ball or run a single base, but what can I say, being a fan is a lot of work. Especially when you’re chasing players down to re-sunscreen, sneaking in granola bars to the snack-free ballpark, and endlessly filling up water bottles.

But as much as I joke, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Being able to watch your son (and husband) do something they both adore while getting extra one-on-one time with your daughter in the stands is a pretty cool thing.

Plus the people-watching is beyond fascinating. Throughout a 3 day tournament, you see all sorts of things out there both on and off the field. Competition and hot weather can do a number on folks.

Which is why my very clear encouragement this week is to…

Be the teammate you want to play with.

It doesn’t matter if you’re one of the 9 folks on the field or teaming up in the game of love… be the teammate that encourages, picks each other up, has their back, and never deserts them… the teammate you’d love to be playing with.

Sadly, when things get tough or hard or scary, you can forget that the two of you are each other’s ultimate teammates.

And in times of stress, worry, or defeat, we really need our teammate to be all the things we really need in order to feel supported and encouraged. And it really starts with you being that teammate. Not waiting around for the other guy (or gal) to step up first.

Be less focused on being the MVP and more focused on being the MVT (most valuable teammate) and you’re going to succeed on and off the field!

I just know it.

P.S. What is the biggest “teammate” attribute you desire in your partner? How do you “show up” for each other? Hit reply and let me know as I’d love to celebrate and cheer the two of you on!
