Wanting to win

You may be shocked by this… but my family and I are driving home from another weekend away playing sports. It may all seem a bit crazy, but it’s clearly the season of life we’re in.

The coolest thing about this weekend was seeing my son be SUPER excited for his sister.

This weekend was the first time she’s traveled farther than a 40-mile radius for sports. And, after watching her brother go to some really cool places to play baseball with his buddies, this was a huge weekend for her. To experience some real travel softball, to stay in a hotel with her teammates, to swim in a heated pool after an exhausting day at the ballpark. All the fun and exciting experiences (and memories) formed a long and chaotic weekend.

But like I said, the coolest part was seeing how excited my son was to cheer his sister on as she experienced something like this.

It made me realize how excited we should be about each other’s success.

When it comes to relationships, we should want the best for each other.

We should want our partner to win… because it means we’re winning too.
We should want our partner to shine… because it means our relationship is shining too.
We should want our partner to succeed… because it means they’re growing and that’s worth celebrating.

When it comes to love, we should want the best for each other.

Take some time this week to make sure that competition or resentment hasn’t snuck into your relationship. Use this reflection to reset where you need it and be sure that you are wanting it ALL for your partner… just like they should be wanting it for you!

I’m cheering you both on,

-A
