Choose Your Own Adventure

My kids fly out tomorrow morning to spend a week with their grandparents in Northern Idaho and I just don’t know quite what to do with myself. I’m SO excited for their adventure, a bit overwhelmed for my father-in-law and what he’s gotten himself into, and of course beyond overjoyed for some kid-free time!

My husband and I’s families live farther away, so extended kid-free time is pretty rare for us and we’re so grateful when it happens.

And of course, we’re going to do our best to make the most of it.

By having some adventures of our own.

We’re going to trail behind the kids by a day or two and take a very slow and roundabout trip up north to see the sights, spend some time without a plan and eventually meet up with the kids to fly them home the following weekend.

My hope is that it plays out like a choose your own adventure book! Remember those as a kid??

Well here’s my vision of the grown-up version…

Hungry?

Sure, let’s pop into this café and see what looks good on the menu!

Did you see that cute bag hanging in the window?

I absolutely did, let’s go inside and check it out!

Hey, did you notice that vista point sign?

I did… let’s go take a look and check out the view!

I mean, how much fun does this sound? I’m all in for it and can’t wait to see where it takes us.

And that is my encouragement to the two of you…

To choose your own adventure.

Sure you may not have a week at your disposal, or even the time and energy to dive in this deep, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find an adventure nearby. Take the scenic route home… spend some time getting lost together… check out a new restaurant and order a dish you’d rarely pick. Find a way to go on an adventure together.

I can’t wait to hear how it goes.
