Clueless is not an excuse.

My daughter has recently fallen in love with baking, which means we have cookies and cupcakes in an endless supply at home…sigh.

My kitchen of course looks like a flour bomb has been released on the daily AND I’m seeing lots of experiments in the kitchen as she learns the important difference between baking powder and baking soda.

She’s learning and I’m proud of her. There are lots of questions, lots of spills, and also lots of joy as she’s learning something that can feel new and overwhelming. Especially with small hands and shaky measuring spoons.

The point is… she’s learning. And so are all of us. I don’t know if you’re learning a new language, tuning up your rusty handyman skills, or diving into a new and challenging project at work. But what I do know, is that it’s very likely you’re also in the process of learning something new.

Which is amazing as a human. It’s also why I have very little patience when someone uses the “old dog new trick” excuse in relationship work.

There is a WEALTH of information out there to improve your relationship. And whether you choose to listen to podcasts, read books, dive into therapy, or take an online course… it’s all available to you.

Which basically means…

Being emotionally clueless is not an excuse.

It’s not an excuse to avoid hard conversations.
It’s not an excuse to throw your hands up and say “you know me, I just don’t do emotions”.
And it’s certainly not an excuse to stop learning.

Take advantage of every opportunity out there and KNOW that you can ALWAYS learn new stuff!!

I know you can.
