Communicate possibilities... not history

The wild thing about communication is that it’s full of stories. Stories around what has happened, stories around what you believe will happen, stories of unchecked assumptions, and unspoken expectations.

When couples communicate in love, they’re usually talking from a place of what has happened OR could happen and not from a place of giving each conversation the opportunity to be different, to be new, to be better.

Because in order for communication to be productive, it needs to be based on the present. Not the past. Not the future. But the present.

My greatest piece of advice when it comes to talking… especially in love… is to…

Communicate based on possibility not on history.

Communicate based on what you need, not what you’re worried you won’t get. Communicate based on how you want things to be, not how you wish they could have been. Communicate based on how you feel, not how you think.

Communicate based on the possibility that you can get better at it. That the two of you can slow things down and really express what needs to be spoken.

Communicate based on possibility not on history.

Take some time this week to really slow down communication and see it for the opportunity it is… fully of possibility.

You got this!
