Don't Play Through Every Injury in Your Relationship

After all my years of playing and watching sports, I consider myself a sports saying aficionado.  From “the balls in your court” to “let’s hit this one out of the park”, I can usually find a sports saying to fit most life situations.

And I’m sure you’ve probably heard, “rub some dirt on it and get back out there”.  Which is oddly one I love to hate.  Because, as important as it may be to shake things off and get right back up when it comes to your relationship, this isn’t always the best practice.

In fact, some injuries shouldn’t be ignored. Sometimes you really do need to sit it out for a bit… to make sure there was no permanent damage done.

And that’s really my encouragement this week…

Don’t play through the injury.  Take the time to heal it and move ahead, stronger than ever.

Because when it comes to love and relationships, you should not play through every injury.

Your partnership is a complex being and it needs to be given the time and attention to heal when hurt has occurred. The faster you whiz by a hurt feeling or a short-sighted sharp word, the more you risk having those temporary hurts become recurring injuries.

And no one wants that.

It’s much easier to manage a hurt when it’s small in size and intensity than it is to ignore it and have it grow with pain and significance.

Take the time to soothe, validate and heal.

The two of you will be better because of the attention you paid to your healing.

I’m cheering for you,

P.S. If there are some unhealed injuries piling up in your relationship, don’t let that linger any longer. Reach out so we can come up with a plan for success.
