How will you respond?

There is nothing like the last 12 months of change, pivots, side steps, and “throw your hands in the air” chaos to show me what a control freak I had become.

I’ve always leaned on the type-A side… heck I probably crossed that line years ago.

And yet, all that I’ve been reminded of over the last year, is how little control I have over EVERYTHING.

And what I’ve lost in any semblance of control, I’ve made up in my adaptability and flexibility.

I’ve become cat-like with my reflexes… all because I’m slowing down to choose my response.

Now I’m FAR FROM PERFECT when it comes to this, but I’m getting better. Even if it’s hard to see at times.

I’m working my behind off to accept that at the end of the day, I can’t control sh*t. I only get to choose how I’m going to handle it.

Whether it comes to love, relationships, or parenting I’m far from in control, and the faster I can accept that and instead choose how I’m going to handle whatever is being thrown my way… the better it is for me and everyone around me.

I encourage you to practice the art of accepting you are not in control of what life throws at you… AND embracing the fact that you ARE in control of how you handle it.

You don’t have to accept the invitation to every argument, and you don’t need to take the bait when it comes to criticism or negativity. You can choose how you respond when it comes to your relationship and not let out-of-control situations become an excuse for showing up badly.

You've got this (and so do I).

Until next week,

-A

P.S. If all of the changes, stretches, and pivots have wreaked havoc on you and your relationship, please reach out for support. That’s what I’m here for.
