Just show up

I’m training for my first-ever marathon and am about halfway through the program. I’m training with about 30 other runners and I have to say I’m having an absolute blast. I used to run Cross Country in High School and even though I was never the fastest one on the team, I was able to run the mileage just by showing up, putting in the work, and plodding along.

I started this program at the beginning of August and I was nervous! Nervous as in actual tears were shed during the Zoom orientation meeting as I saw what the training program actually entailed. But I showed up the first day and haven’t looked back.

About week 4, when I was really stuck in my head, feeling every ache and pain, I was talking to one of the running coaches. I mentioned something about my doubts or lack of speed or some sort of negative thought. She turned to me with a huge smile and said, “Anna, the only way you don’t do this is if you don’t show up”.

And it all clicked for me. I just needed to show up. I just need to be willing to do the work. The rest is going to fall into place. As long as I keep showing up to each training class and doing my best, I’m going to get there… aches and pains included. I don’t need to be perfect (or even that fast), I just need to show up.

And so do you.

The most important thing you can do in your relationship and in your life… is just show up.

Show up to the moments right in front of you.
Show up for each other
Show up to the relationship
Show up for yourself.

If you just show up and do your best… you’re going to get there.

I just know it!

Until next week,

-A
