Embrace the small moments

I know I’m not alone when I say I’m running at a pace of life right now that is feeling hard to keep up with. I know that the majority of the busyness of my schedule is self-induced, but I also know that I’m in the stage of parenting where my kid’s own interests and activities have me racing around in 30 different directions from when my workday ends until I crash out at the end of the night.

And as much as I know this is a temporary (albeit long-temporary) season, I want to make sure that my husband and I come out the other side still connected to one another. Because how hard would it be to get through the thick of these parenting years with your partner and be strangers.

I also know I’m not alone in wanting to be sure this doesn’t happen.

I talk to couples all the time that are in a similar season of life and as reassuring as that is, because who doesn’t appreciate knowing you’re not alone, I think it’s also important to put words to it.

We are all faced with huge demands on our time and when you’re raising children, it’s usually the squeaky wheel that gets your attention.  And we all know how our kids are typically the squeakiest of wheels.

But the time and attention we give to our partners is actually what keeps the foundation of our relationship solid

So how do you do it?

How do you stay connected during exhausting seasons in life?
How do you ensure that the two of you are reinforcing your relationship foundation?
How do you get through it all?

You do your best to embrace the small moments.

Infuse them with gratitude. Incorporate laughter. Offer reassurance. Allow small embraces and quick smiles to be a reminder that you’re on the same team. Take any small moment you’ve got to breathe energy into your relationship.

That is how the two of you do it!

It doesn’t need to be big and it certainly doesn’t need to be flashy. It can be small moments of connection or encouragement done on the regular that helps the two of you stay as coupled up together as possible.

Embrace the small moments and make the absolute most out of them.

I’m cheering for you.
