Do You Practice Patience?
We tend to have more patience for the new things we try, and a whole heck of a lot less patience when it comes to things we’ve done a million times over.
And, the same is true with people. We tend to have more patience for new people in our lives, and sometimes even strangers, than we do for those closest to us.
I think the biggest reason behind this impatience is that you expect those closest to you to KNOW you so well, that there shouldn’t be misunderstandings or miscommunications. That they SHOULD know you well enough to anticipate what you need, or what you’re trying to say. And yet, this is a big ol’ lie.
Those closest to you are just as deserving, if not more, of patience and compassion. They’re the ones choosing to do life with you, day in and day out. My goodness, YES, they’re deserving of patience.
If you struggle with patience, or an unrealistic expectation of mind reading, I encourage you to take the challenge this week to slow down, step back and find ways to demonstrate more patience to your partner.
They really do deserve it.
Until next week,
-A
