Mind your P’s and Q’s

It’s the time of year when you see #thankful and #gratitude in every home décor store. And I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to having at least one of them perched on a shelf right now. And I’m certainly not here to debate the importance of gratitude in our lives. What I’m really here to do is to stick up for ‘thank you's' lesser represented friend ‘please’.

You see, as great as ‘thank you’ is, ‘please’ is really where it’s at. Let me explain…

‘Please’ is an invitation. It’s a request to be invited in. Into conversation, into interaction, into communication.

When you add please, you’re not demanding, you’re asking. And that is a complete game changer when it comes to relationships.

You’re not just assuming that everything there is for the taking. You’re checking in and confirming.

Please may I join you?
Please may we talk?
Please will you forgive me?

‘Please’ removes assumptions or demands and instead creates an invitation to connect.

So as you go about life this week, I encourage you to remember that…

Please is just as important as thank you.
