Ditch the excuses

I just finished reading (aka listening to) “Can’t Hurt Me” by David Goggins. Holy smokes was it a good book! Super intense, immensely inspiring, and pretty hardcore. I highly recommend it (but PLEASE read some excerpts first to be sure it’s up your alley because it might be triggering to some).

There were so many takeaways and reflections for me and even though I finished it about 3 weeks ago, I still can’t stop thinking about this man’s life story. The trauma and adversity that he overcame was like nothing I’ve ever heard of and he did it with an INCREDIBLE mindset.

A mindset that did not allow failure to be a stop sign, didn’t allow room for doubt, and certainly didn’t allow for excuses. He had every reason to give up and he didn’t use any of them. He ditched every excuse you could think of because he knew excuses would be what separated him from success.

As I said, a truly inspiring book.  And the part that has kept me thinking over the last weeks is how often we let excuses be the reason we stop or give up. The things we want to improve about ourselves or our relationships are usually tough things. They take work, they take consistency and you’re certainly going to be met with failures along the way.  And for most of us, the smallest bump or slightest obstacle can have us ditching said goal and looking to find a different (and easier) goal.

Now I’m not here to say that life is easy, but I sure do believe that change is possible. And if you really, really want something, your mindset is going to be either your biggest asset or liability along the way.

The sooner you can realize that when it comes to change, you hold the power, the quicker you will be able to shove aside the excuses and really work towards the change you want to see in your life and your relationship.

We aren’t all going to live a life where we attempt to become a Navy Seal or Army Ranger (book spoiler alert) but we sure as heck can live a life where we strive to be the best version of ourselves… especially in love.

I’m cheering for you!!

P.S. If you’re struggling with consistency, excuses, or mindset, reach out for support. Often times we are our biggest obstacle and we need support to change that.
